Heritage Manager

Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation (NAC) is the Prescribed Body Corporate for the Ngarluma people, the Traditional Owners of land and waters across the Pilbara region in Western Australia.


NAC plays an important role in protecting cultural heritage, managing land related matters, and supporting opportunities that create long-term benefit for Ngarluma people and future generations.

An opportunity now exists for an experienced Heritage Manager to lead NAC's cultural heritage function and provide strategic oversight across heritage management, compliance, stakeholder engagement, and care of country initiatives.


This position is based in Karratha and requires someone who values being connected to community, country and on the ground heritage management activities.



The Role

Reporting to the CEO, the Heritage Manager will lead the protection, management and preservation of Ngarluma cultural heritage across a broad range of heritage, land access and stakeholder matters.


The position combines strategic leadership with operational delivery and requires someone comfortable working across heritage approvals, compliance, Traditional Owner engagement and project management.
The role works closely with Traditional Owners, cultural knowledge holders, mining proponents, government agencies and other stakeholders to ensure heritage management activities align with Ngarluma values, statutory obligations and long-term community objectives.


This is a significant leadership role for someone who values meaningful work, strong community relationships and practical outcomes.



Key Responsibilities


•    Lead NAC's heritage management and compliance functions

•    Oversee heritage approvals, assessments and statutory submissions

•    Manage heritage agreements, compliance systems and governance processes

•    Build strong relationships with Traditional Owners, Elders and stakeholders

•    Represent NAC in heritage related meetings, negotiations and consultations

•    Lead and support the heritage team and external consultants

•    Prepare operational and compliance reporting for the CEO

•    Support projects connected to land management, care of country and cultural preservation


About You

You will bring strong experience in Aboriginal cultural heritage management together with the ability to operate confidently across stakeholder engagement, compliance and operational delivery.


Experience Required: 


•    Experience managing Aboriginal cultural heritage programs and projects

•    Strong understanding of heritage legislation, approvals and compliance requirements

•    Experience working with Aboriginal communities and Traditional Owners

•    Strong commercial and stakeholder management capability

•    Experience engaging with mining companies, proponents and government agencies

•    The ability to balance cultural, operational and regulatory considerations

•    Strong written communication and reporting skills

•    A practical and collaborative leadership style
