Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation (NAC) is the Prescribed Body Corporate for the Ngarluma people, the Traditional Owners of land and waters across the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

NAC works to protect Ngarluma culture and heritage while supporting the social, cultural and economic interests of Ngarluma people.

We are seeking a part-time Communications Officer to support NAC's day-to-day communications with members, stakeholders and the broader community.

About the Role

This is a practical, hands-on communications role supporting the preparation and distribution of clear and engaging information across NAC's communication channels.

Working with the NAC team, you will help prepare social media content, newsletters, member updates, website content and other communications materials.

The role would suit someone with good writing and organisational skills who is comfortable using social media and digital communication tools and enjoys helping keep people informed.

Key Responsibilities

prepare and schedule content for NAC's social media channels;
assist with newsletters, member updates, notices and other communications;
update and maintain content on the NAC website;
help prepare promotional material, flyers and event communications;
take photographs and gather content from NAC activities and events;
assist with communicating upcoming meetings, programs, events and community initiatives;
maintain communication contact lists and content records;
ensure communications are clear, accurate and consistent;
liaise with NAC staff to identify news, activities and information to share; and
provide general communications and administrative support as required.

About You

We are looking for someone who is organised, reliable and able to communicate clearly with a range of people.

Ideally, you will have:

good written and verbal communication skills;
confidence using social media platforms such as Facebook and LinkedIn;
basic experience preparing digital content, newsletters or promotional material;
experience using Microsoft Office;
familiarity with tools such as Canva would be advantageous;
good attention to detail;
the ability to manage your time and work independently; and
a positive and practical approach to working as part of a small team.

Previous experience in communications, marketing, administration or community engagement would be beneficial, but formal communications qualifications are not essential.

Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation (NAC) is the Prescribed Body Corporate for the Ngarluma people, the Traditional Owners of land and waters across the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

We are seeking a proactive and commercially minded Community Business Development Coordinator to support the growth of Ngarluma-owned and endorsed businesses and help create new pathways for economic participation.

This is a part-time role approx 3 days per week.

About the Role

This is a hands-on role focused on helping Ngarluma businesses grow, become more sustainable and access new commercial opportunities.

You will work directly with existing and emerging businesses to provide practical business support, identify contracting and procurement opportunities, build industry relationships and connect businesses with the right professional advice, funding, training and networks.

A key part of the role will be developing relationships with major industry partners, government, contractors and other stakeholders to identify opportunities for Ngarluma businesses to participate in projects across the Pilbara.

Key Responsibilities

provide practical mentoring and business development support to Ngarluma-owned and endorsed businesses;
assist businesses with planning, feasibility, commercial strategy, marketing and financial analysis;
identify contracting, procurement, partnership and funding opportunities;
build relationships with major industry partners, government agencies and other stakeholders;
support businesses through tendering, contracting and commercial negotiations;
connect businesses with accountants, legal advisers, financial advisers and other specialist support;
research market opportunities and identify emerging sectors and potential business partnerships;
help establish and strengthen networks between Ngarluma business owners;
coordinate business training, mentoring and development programs;
identify employment, training and trade pathways for Ngarluma people; and
work with the CEO and broader NAC team to support NAC’s economic development priorities.

About You

You will be someone who enjoys working with people, building relationships and turning opportunities into practical outcomes.

Ideally, you will bring:

experience in business development, commercial advisory, enterprise support or a related area;
strong business planning and commercial skills;
experience supporting small businesses or emerging enterprises;
an understanding of procurement, tenders and commercial contracting;
strong stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills;
confidence working with industry, government, businesses and community stakeholders;
strong written and verbal communication skills; and
the ability to work independently and take ownership of initiatives.

Formal qualifications in business, commerce or a related discipline are desirable, although relevant practical experience will be equally valued.

Experience working with Aboriginal organisations, communities or Aboriginal-owned businesses will be highly regarded.

Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation is seeking Heritage Officers to join its Heritage team in Karratha.

This is a hands-on role for people who want to work closely with Ngarluma Elders and Traditional Owners, spend time on Ngarluma Country and play an important role in identifying, recording and protecting culturally significant places, knowledge and heritage.

The role involves a mix of field-based heritage work, cultural engagement and heritage administration, including participation in surveys, site monitoring and consultation with Traditional Owners.

Some heritage activities involve culturally restricted men’s or women’s matters. Heritage Officers may therefore be allocated to particular activities in accordance with Ngarluma cultural protocols.

What you’ll be doing

Participate in heritage surveys, site inspections and monitoring activities across Ngarluma Country.
Work alongside Ngarluma Elders, Traditional Owners and heritage professionals.
Support consultation regarding cultural heritage, significant places and site management.
Assist with recording cultural heritage information and maintaining accurate heritage records.
Support the preparation of heritage survey and field reports.
Use GPS and other field equipment to record heritage information.
Travel to and work in remote locations across Ngarluma Country.
Follow cultural protocols, confidentiality requirements and workplace health and safety procedures.
Support the Heritage team with other heritage and field-based activities as required.
About you

You don’t necessarily need to have worked as a Heritage Officer before. We are looking for people who are reliable, respectful, practical and willing to learn.

You will ideally have:

A strong connection to, understanding of or respect for Ngarluma culture and community.
Confidence communicating with Elders, Traditional Owners, colleagues and other stakeholders.
The ability to work effectively as part of a field-based team.
A willingness and ability to work outdoors and in remote conditions.
Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
A current WA C-Class Driver’s Licence.
The ability to maintain confidentiality when working with culturally sensitive information.

Desirable, but not essential:

Previous heritage, environmental, mining or fieldwork experience.
4WD driving experience.
Experience using GPS equipment.
Experience with ArcGIS or other mapping and data collection systems.

Karratha Station Commences 2026 Muster with Strong First Nations Team

Karratha Station has proudly commenced its 2026 muster with a complete team of First Nations people, marking a significant and positive milestone for the station and the wider Ngarluma community.

The 2026 muster has been a fantastic demonstration of teamwork, knowledge, experience and connection to Country, with the station team working together to achieve an excellent outcome in preparing cattle for transport.

It was particularly special to have Ngarluma staff and Elders at Karratha Station during the muster to witness first-hand the drafting process and the hard work being undertaken by the team. Their presence provided an important connection between the station, community and Country, while also allowing Elders to see the skills and commitment of the next generation working on Country.

Karratha Station is operated and overseen by Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation (NAC) , with the station forming an important part of the organisation's pastoral activities and opportunities for Ngarluma people.

The successful muster is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when experienced station staff, First Nations workers, Elders, Board members and NAC staff come together with a shared commitment to achieving positive outcomes.

A special thank you goes to the Ngarluma Elders and Board members for their ongoing guidance, support and encouragement, and to all NAC staff who have contributed to the success of the muster. Your support and involvement have been greatly appreciated.

It was also a privilege to see the Ngarluma team working together on Country and to witness the pride that comes with being involved in the day-to-day operations of Karratha Station.

The final stages of drafting and preparing the cattle for trucking demonstrated the professionalism and dedication of the entire team, resulting in a fantastic outcome and a strong start to the 2026 muster season.

Congratulations to everyone involved. The 2026 Karratha Station muster is not only about moving cattle — it is about creating meaningful employment opportunities, building skills, sharing knowledge and strengthening connection to Country.

We will be conducting our biennial maintenance dredging program at Dampier and Cape Lambert port operations and surrounding waters from mid August 2026 for approximately 4 weeks.

To support the protect dredging program, we will be;

Daily water quality and sediment plume monitoring surround Cape Lambert.
Using a trained marine megafauna (whale, dolphins and turtles) observer and maintaining a 300 metre separation between megafauna and active dredging operations.
Applying additional controls for turtles including physical barriers around the head of the dredge.

Roebourne District High School visit Karratha Station

Last week, the students of Room 1 at Roebourne District High School swapped the classroom for the paddock, heading out to Karratha Station for a hands-on On-Country learning experience. Here's what they had to say:

On Wednesday last week, Room 1 embarked on an On-Country adventure to Karratha Station. Connected to our in-class learning about Station Life and as an extension from the Mingullatharndo (5-mile) excursion earlier this term.

Room 1 has been learning how to locate significant places on local, regional and state maps. As the Stations are such large pastoral properties, we learnt to use a regional map to find the significant Stations around the Pilbara.

Room 1 discussed some of the important jobs that are required around the Station such as building fences and looking after the animals. There were so many questions we had for our trip — Who are the workers today? Did Aboriginal people shear the sheep? And what animals would be on the Station?

During our visit we met Mr Jeffery, the Station Master, and Mrs Amanda and Mrs Jodi, who help manage Karratha Station through Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation.

We saw some of the old buildings, the old shearing shed, the Workers' maya, the workshop, and the cattle ramp. We also learnt about the solar panel that now helps the station generate power from the yurra (sun).

The students were especially excited to see the animals, some wild and some being reared up. First, we met the bulugu (cows) — the children really liked the way they nuzzled with their heads. While filling up the water trough, the children were very curious to see the little frogs jumping and swimming around in the tank.

Last we got to meet the wild yawada (horses) that had been gathered into the paddock. These yawada are very young and are yet to be broken in — that means no one has ridden them yet.

Some of our mangularra were brave enough to offer their help to break the horses in. Unfortunately, our trip had come to an end, and we started making our way back to the homestead.

We thanked the lovely Station staff for our visit and got back on the bus to Roebourne.

A huge thank you to Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation for your support in facilitating this wonderful experience for our class. It was very special to see what families and local people are doing in our community.

Thank you to Woodside North West and its joint venture partners for funding the transportation to Karratha Station. This initiative provided valuable support for our On-Country experience.

Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation represents Traditional Owners in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, with responsibility for protecting Native Title rights, cultural heritage and supporting long-term economic development for its members.

This role will play an important part in strengthening financial management, supporting decision-making and ensuring the organisation continues to operate effectively and sustainably.

This role can be based in Perth with regular time spent in Karratha, or permanently based in Karratha. Flexibility will be considered for the right candidate.

The Role

Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the leadership team, the Finance Manager will oversee the day-to-day financial management of the organisation while supporting broader strategic and governance objectives. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys balancing operational finance responsibilities with commercial and strategic involvement across a complex and community-focused organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Oversee day-to-day financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and financial reporting.
Prepare monthly management reports, Board reporting packs and financial analysis.
Support annual audit processes and ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory obligations.
Maintain and strengthen financial controls, systems and reporting processes.
Assist with financial planning, budgeting and long-term forecasting.
Support the CEO and leadership team with commercial analysis, funding management and financial decision making.

About You

You are a commercially-minded finance professional who combines strong technical capability with sound judgement, professionalism and a collaborative approach.

You will ideally bring:

Previous experience as a Finance Manager or senior finance professional.
Strong financial management, reporting and compliance experience.
Experience preparing budgets, forecasts and management reporting.
Strong attention to detail and financial analysis capability.
Ability to work closely with leadership teams and provide practical financial insights.
Strong organisational and stakeholder management skills.
A collaborative and hands-on working style.

Green energy park support to help diversify WA's regional economy

Ngarluma Aboriginal Corporation (NAC) welcomes Premier Roger Cook’s and his Government’s support for the establishment of the first Ngarluma Green Energy Park on Ngarluma Country located near Karratha announced this week.

NAC is the proponent, landholder and cultural authority leading a next‑generation clean‑energy development model that is faster, lower‑risk and positioned at the premium location for renewables in the Pilbara.

The Ngarluma Green Energy Park will enable utility‑scale solar and battery developments with a target of up to 5 GW across NAC’s Green Energy Parks portfolio. The first Park with land for up to1.2 GW is strategically located less than 5 km from Karratha, close to blue‑chip industrial demand centres on the Burrup and the NWIS , will use existing sealed roads, a drive‑in/drive‑out workforce and major transport logistics. It is the closest renewable development zone to regional demand loads and will link to a guaranteed high‑capacity substation and transmission corridor to be built and owned by APA.

NAC Director, Belinda Churnside, stated: “This is the future of clean‑energy development in the Pilbara — a Traditional Owner‑led model that protects Country, accelerates investment and delivers long-term benefits for Ngarluma people.”

NAC’s approach cuts years off typical development timelines by unifying land access, heritage, environmental approvals, planning and commercial pathways under a single entity. With pre‑vetted land, upfront environmental approvals and heritage management and a master-planned precinct design, open to Power developers to benefit from reduced cost, reduced risk and faster time to market.

Ngarluma and Rio Tinto to progress renewable energy project

Rio Tinto and Ngarluma people have partnered together to build a solar farm on Ngaluruma Country after a memorandum of understanding was signed to explore opportunities for renewable energy projects on Country.

The project will be located next to Rio Tinto’s Yurralyi Maya Power Station near Karratha.

The project is expected to reduce carbon emissions and displace up to 11% of natural gas currently used. for generation across Rio Tinto’s mining operations across the Pilbara

"The solar farm project will enable NAC to realise sustainable revenues, increase contracting opportunities and contribute to a positive environmental impact in the Pilbara.

"This project development is a testament to the enduring strength of our special relationship with Rio Tinto and our shared commitment to working together to create a more sustainable future."

It is estimated that 600MW to 700MW of renewable energy will be required by 2030 to displace the majority of gas use across Rio Tinto’s Pilbara power network, while additional renewable energy will be required to support widespread fleet electrification, which is expected after 2030.
